COURSE 2 Basic Makeup and Hair

Although optional, each student is advised to purchase a professional brush and makeup kit.

What you Need

January intake and July intake

As a student of The Makeup Agenda, you will need the following:-

  • Professional Makeup Kit (you can choose from a range of options available at the school)
Access to a computer, printer and digital camera
     

Module 1 

Comprehensive, step-by-step, basic makeup application techniques.

- Compulsory for every student -

The makeup artist
This course takes a look at the core values and goals of the makeup artist and educates in all aspects of the industry. In depth analysis of the face as a structure is undertaken.

Foundation
Students learn how to make their own products and colors for foundation as this is the vital ‘backdrop’ that brings all the other makeup elements together.

Color correction
Explores all aspects of the application of color.

Facial proportions
The course looks at the structure of the face as a whole, including modern techniques to improve or change facial proportions.

Eyes
Examines techniques and all aspects of the eyes in detail.

Rouge
Focuses on correct application of cream and powder rouge.

Lips
This course takes a detailed look at the lips, including correcting the shape, as well as different effects that can be created with lipsticks.

Eyelashes
This course includes a look at eyelashes for fashion photography as well as designing different looks with editorial eyelashes.

Powder
Concentrates on the application of powder in detail.

Evaluation

3 Month Evaluation

  • 2 days in class (in-house evaluator)
  • 5 hr practical over 2 days
  • 3 hr theory

6 Month Evaluation

  • 4 day makeup (outside evaluator)
  • 3 day theory

 

Module 2

This module includes:

  • The hair structure
  • Blow-drying
  • Flat ironing
  • Product Knowledg
  • Setting

The students now have the ability to advance their abilities learning such skills as:

  • Curling and Tonging
  • Upstyling
  • Adding Hair Pieces
  • Creative Styling
  • Men’s Grooming

This module also deals with structuring bridal events and the bride’s day. In addition, there is a practical financial component dealing with indispensable accounting, invoicing, costing and tax skills.

Module 3

The impact of digital photography on makeup application has been quite radical and in this module, students are made aware of the many factors to take into account when applying photographic and digital makeup.

On a practical basis, students will be able to integrate all the different aspects of modules one and two. They will now be able to go out on photo shoots and tests when available.
Students on test shoots will be given assistance when needed, allowing them to build their portfolios and gain the necessary hands-on experience giving them the confidence to go out into the industry and work as professional hair and makeup artists.

Evaluation

9 Month Evaluation

  • 4 day practical
  • 3 day theory (outside evaluator)

12 Month Final Evaluation 

  • 4 day makeup and hair and portfolio to be provided (outside evaluator)

 

Students are required to bring their own model for the exam.
